We are currently recruiting experienced Scientific Project for Hydraulic Fracturing Modeling on behalf of a major international Oil Company

Location: France   Onshore

Start Date:  02/11/2018

Duration:  01/11/2019



Contribute to a research project dedicated to the modeling of hydraulic fracturing.


Due to its ultra-low matrix permeability, producing shale plays require multi-stage hydraulically fractured horizontal wells. The design of well completion (# stages and clusters, type and quantity of proppant and fluid) is the key to successful shale development. This design must take into account many factors such as geological heterogeneity and its impact on the rock geomechanical properties and stress profile, as well as natural fractures that may in some cases be reactivated to generate a complex stimulated rock volume around the well.

Several commercial codes are available, but they all have their own limitations. TOTAL is engaged in a major research effort to understand the mechanisms of fracture propagation in heterogeneous shales and to develop a new code for modeling hydraulic fracturing.

Description and Objectives:

The Scientific SERVICE for Hydraulic Fracturing Modeling of unconventional reservoirs, it will consist to :

  • Contribute to and coordinate a state-of-the-art of the hydraulic fracturing modeling codes
  • Perform hydraulic fracturing modeling using various codes and for various configurations
  • Participate in the construction and follow-up of our research activities
  • Publish reports and publications summarizing research findings. Present results at internal meetings and scientific conferences
  • Work in collaboration with TOTAL integrated team of research scientists.

Context and Environment:

The position is located in Pau, at TOTAL Scientific and Technical center, in TOTAL R&D Division. It is part of a diverse team of geologists, geochemists, geo-mechanics and reservoir engineers.

Required Specifications :

Thesis / PhD degree in Petroleum Engineering.

Minimum 5 years of experience in the subject matter domain (modeling of hydraulic fracturing).

Soft Skills: cross-functionality, curiosity, team player, initiative taking

Excellent level of English.

This job will be on Resident basis
