We are currently recruiting experienced Project Engineer for Unconventional Resources on behalf of a major international Oil Company

Location: France   Onshore

Start Date:  02/11/2018

Duration:  01/11/2019

 

Mission:

Contribute to a research project on unconventional resources by performing innovative reservoir simulations and analyses of shale wells production data.

Background:

Simulation of shale wells can be done in a simplified way with the use of standards reservoir simulators such as Intersect. Such models rely on a simplified geometry of the stimulated reservoir volume (SRV) and on conventional flow and transport physics (e.g. Darcy Law).

The reality is much more complex as the geometry of the SRV includes a combination of hydraulically generated fractures and re-activated natural fractures which opening may be partially sustained (or not) with proppant. Furthermore, due to strong kerogen-hydrocarbon interactions and extremely small pore and pore throat sizes, the validity of the physical laws governing flow and thermodynamics that are used in conventional reservoir simulations is questioned.

TOTAL has embarked in a major research effort devoted to understanding the transport mechanisms in shales and improving the way these mechanisms are modelled. The ultimate goal is to improve production forecasts reliability and maximize long-term production in unconventional reservoirs.

Description and Objectives:

The Engineering SERVICE for Unconventional Resources, it will consist to :

  • Analyze production and pressure data of shale wells with the use of Rate-Transient Analysis methods (HIS Harmony software).
  • Perform a state-of-the art of the reservoir simulation methods for unconventional resources
  • Perform reservoir simulations with Intersect and/or ECLIPSE.
  • Tests innovative methods for simulating flow in shales.
  • Work in collaboration with TOTAL integrated team of research scientists.
  • Participate in various meetings and discussions, some of them involving academics with whom TOTAL collaborates.
  • Write reports and publications summarizing research findings. Present results at internal meetings.

Context and Environment:

In order to enhance interaction with the TOTAL Research Team and to use TOTAL resources for performing reservoir simulations, the SERVICE must be taken in TOTAL’s office in Pau, at TOTAL Scientific and Technical Center.

Required Specifications :

MSc degree with several years of experience in Reservoir Engineering.

Must be able to run reservoir simulations autonomously; good knowledge in PVT.

Soft Skills: cross-functionality, curiosity, team player, initiative taking

Excellent level of English.

This job will be on Resident basis
